With all the different views on who/who not to sign I am trying to keep focused on where we need to be by the end of Jan.

Let's assume that any new signings will be late in the window (end of Jan?). You know what usually happens. The 'new' striker cannot score and the reasons given are often 'it takes time to settle in and get used to the team' or 'he's not quite match fit' etc etc. Defenders usually settle in quicker

Don't get me wrong, I am as excited as anyone about the future but I would be devastated if we had some quality new players but had too much to do in March/April to stay up. Remember, it was one lously point that saw us go down last time.

So, I reckon we need 16 points in the 13 games before the end of Jan - preferably before the beginning of new year as the Jan fixtures are really tough, Man U,Chelsea,Spurs,Pompy.

That would give us 27 points and then we have 14 games Feb/Mar/Apr to push on and get to the magic 40.

Personally, I think we will do it with something to spare. I just feel we now have that all important factor of "momentum", but this period up to jan is crucial and we have to win/draw with what we've got. Benetiz just needs that couple of goals!

Very Happy

The bottom 7 or 8 are not picking up points a quick pace and I would guess that this year with the spread it will be a lower survival requirement. This is probably due to stronger top half clubs than in the past.

I reckon 36 points will be plenty.

Eck must maintain a point a game but more importantly its no good Sunderland win Man City draw and who knows Liverpool draw if you then go to Wigan and Wolves and lose and only draw at home to Fulham. If someone told me lose the 3 prior then win against the lower ranked 3 I would take it every time.

Eck must prove to me he can break the cycle of playing well against good sides and pathetic limp displays against lesser teams.

TO ME THIS HAS BEEN HIS WEAKNESS MOTIVATING AGAINST LESSER TEAMS.... After all players dont need motivating against Liverpool etc etc.

The Jury is still out

Actually to help put our results in context after going to anfield next we'll have played all the current top half bar Chelski. Maybe we're doing even better than we thought.

26 points after the Chelski game on boxing day is the usual target of teams in order to stay up so i think the need to aim for that!!

However having said that with the sides that are likely to be below us this year i.e. Hull, Wolves and possibly West Ham (the way they are playing) I think maybe 35 points maybe enough to stay up so looking at it 19-26 points on boxing day could well be enough!!!

I believe we will stay up relatively comfortably given as said the sides below us atm and the money we will have to spend in January!

Well as long as we survive that's the paramount requirement get this season over and hopefully invest in some quality player's now the "Shister's" have gone. Smile

I really really hope Chucho start's to score and wouldn't that be great if it's Monday at Liverpool on T.V. Shocked
