Someone mentioned Barry on here sometime ago a real character a very sad story.....I have had weight problems all my life and obviously people will say well it's your own fault and it is but unless you are morbidly obese it's difficult to really know what it's like.
Food becomes an obsession rules your life diets the more you think about dieting the more you think of food 24/7 it is a physical need and an emotional need as well.
I feel for Barry Austin he is/was a true Bluenose so please don't think of him as a " Who ate all the pies" character and consider his plight..at least he took the risk having a gastric band fitted more gut's ( forgive the pun) than I have.
Good luck Barry K.R.O
P.S His story.

Obviously you are NOT clinically obese easy to say what you should eat and not eat it just is NOT as simple as that.
I used to smoke 40/60 cigarettes a day and gave up 20 yrs ago I personally found that the easiest thing I have ever done..........million's of people find it impossible to give up.....I didn't yet I cannot diet tried 100's of diet's medication from the Doctor nothing work's..............a last resort surgery but with MRSA.....blood clots.....other complications that's supposing I survived surgery once again not an easy option.
Anyway I personally wish Barry Austin well.

having a wheat allergy, or gluten allergy, will not make you gain weight, infact it will make you do quite the opposite as you will be malnutritioned.
BUT once diagnossed, the gluten free food diet you're probably on WILL make you gain some weight as the gluten free foods are generally far more richer than normal foods.
its sad how people judge each other on physical appearances when they know nothing of the person (apart from villa fans who we all know think of their sisters in a naughty kind of ways ). alot of the time obesity is a medical/psychological problem with very few treatments.
i hope you both find a way to shed some weight....

that is true rasta but the kidney stones which it caused stopped me going to the gym and the stress of passing those kidney stones damaged the lining of the stomach meaning i eat anything that i could physically keep down that coupled with no trip to the gym meant i gained weight |

Read the article about Barry in yesterdays Sunday Mercury. Refreshingly honest about his problems, wants others not to make the same mistakes he has.
A genuinely nice and popular guy, I wish him well. |

What about the 20 pints a night he drinks then? Is that an obsession too? As it's not a normal amount? Wouldn't you say thats an addiction too? Alcoholism most would call it.
Do you feel the same about alcoholics?? Most would say they're a burden on the NHS. Me included
An unnecessary strain on the tax payers NHS in my opinion, nice or not, he has let him self get like that by evidently having little self control or will power. It was his chosen life style.
If this guy was a Villa fan I'd feel the same way. I haven't come here to wind people up or kick off a stir. It's genuinly how I feel about such matters and the same goes for all other bareatrics. _________________

Lee I would actually agree and will assume that your not on here for a wind up.
Im sure that obesity is a condition that probably has some deeper lying psychological issues underneath it which would be similar to any other form of addiction- whether it be to alcohol, extreme dieting, smoking, drug addiction etc.
It does come down to being able to have a fair degree of self control and desire to make a change that will affect your life. Sadly for some people this is not possible as they are so far gone.
Sad really

No seriously not here to cause trouble.
I recently worked on aMortuary in Milton Keynes hospital - you wouldn't believe the measures inside hospitals now for bariatric patients. Cranes to winch people in and out of beds are rented at a fortune to the hospitals. Mortuary's are now having to include Bariatric fridges in the dissection rooms instead of the standard cold refridgeration units that are used.
I wont go into detail - hardly a nice thing to talk about..... but all at a massive cost to the tax payer when these patients are to big to work.
I was recently stung on a Ryanair flight too... 18kg over the limit and charged £15 for each Kilo (£270) - I argued there's 2 people who just checked in that each have a combined weight of over myself and my GF put together who don't pay extra yet they charge us to cover the additional fuel costs?!
I know Barry is a likeable character. He used to live down Marsh Lane. It is a shame - and it can only be good that his legacy sends a message to the younger generation to avoid such self-neglect again. _________________

Yes it is sad the state he is now in, but surely when he reached... i dont know, say 20Stone he may have thought, hang on a minute im a bot over weight, then 25, 30, 35 + at some point it needs to hit home that he needs to do something.
