I have a sneeky feeling we wont do well in this match and will be suprised to see us win _________________ The end is nigh! Aston Villa to be relegated this season, MON to be sacked, all the players will be sold and not replaced, the club will go bankrupt and close down......
THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THIS TO MY ATTENTION |

Unfortunately, those are my thoughts too.
I fully expected us to beat Blackburn & Wolves and we didn't. I expect Everton (injuries or not) to present a tougher test. Let's hope we're wrong. |

Lads, No need to worry as they have so many injuries that we should go there and give a good account of ourselves, who knows maybe Carew will find the back of the net although I have no faith in Heskey even shooting let alone hitting the net.
0-2 Villa for me. _________________ SOTC Look at me tan! |

Neither team are exactly in top form and I cannot see this being a game for the purists.
Apart from set pieces it is difficult to see where our goals will come from, especially as Everton's defence looks likely to be strengthened by the return of Baines and Yobo. Unfortunately it looks like Saha will be fit as he has been on fire so far.
The bookies have the blue bin dippers as slight favourites at 6-4 with us at 7-4 and I think that is about right.
Hopefully they will still be tired after lots of games and injuries and hopefully Carew will finally awake from his 6 month sleep! I think it will be close and hard-fought but I think Everton might just sneak it 2-1.

I dont share all the pessimism. A draw. But nice if history repeated itself and we sneaked the win.
Dont know about Carew starting - 451? Would like to see NRC start.
Should MON reward Brad jnr? |

The only place Guzan will be is on the bench.
It's Friedals 200th consecutive start - against Wolves and in recent games he's played exceedingly well. Guzan made some pen saves and was spectacular, apart from the one on one I don't think he made anything particularly acrobatic or of brilliance. Classy yes.
He will play Carew and Gabi I reckon- but his patience must be wearing thin with Carew? _________________

My god Lee you are a hard taskmaster. He pulled off a brilliant save from 18 yards when he was unsited and if you have ever played in goal, even in the local park, you will know saving one penalty is hard enough, four is absolutely brilliant. I believe since his arrival big Brad has never saved one and he is a very good keeper.
Carew has not played as he can, but he still does more than Emule when he is at his worst. |

Friendlies dont count, and I had forgotten, put it down to my age and that I was not there!
Jossing with Lee, Guzan could have only done better if he had bricked his goals up!
Was slow to react to the four year old's penalty however on Thursday, as shown on Midlands Today, probably cost him his place today! |

| One nil down at half time. Why does MON persist with two out and out forwards? If you look at our results, particularly away from home during the past 12 months, most of our best results have come when we play 4-5-1. Our midfield is not good enough to go 2 versus 3 in the centre. 45 minutes to put it right. Here's hoping for a better second half performance! |

Not much of a better second half performance, but at least we got a point.
Will be quiet refreshing to see L Young back and possibly Coker in the next game.
Would be nice to see a lot more movementt both off and on the ball from the midfielders and the forwards. I would say thats two points lost today not 1 point gained. As for Friedel, he hoofed the ball up field today time after time loosing possesion, and then with 2 minutes of normal time left took to rolling the ball out to feet! _________________ Its make or break time in 2009. |

All in all it could have been worse. We battled hard as usual and definitely deserved a point, but again today showed imo that we do not have the quality in midfield or attack to be a top 4 team.
We now have 1 win in the last 6 games (counting the Sunderland game as a draw) and with the next 3 against West Ham, Bolton and Burnley I think we will need a minimum of 7 points to keep in touch.
I still think 7th is most likely although I think we have a chance maybe of finishing above Spurs and, if Gerrard and Torres keep picking up injuries, maybe even Liverpool. I think our lack of goal threat will probably be what costs us in the end. Our return of zero goals in 10 games from midfield (apart from 2 pens) is just not good enough.
I am now looking forward to Wednesday night and hopefully a return to winning ways, and hopefully a goal or 2 from midfield

I think you sum up the thoughts of most of us, we are just a couple of class players away from success. Like you I see us finishing anywhere from 4th to 7th, dependent on the form of teams around us. I do believe had we been offered a draw at Everton, at the beginning of the season, we would have taken it.
I am at a loss to understand why our midfield do not score more, both the wide men are goalscorers, and certainly both Petrov and Sidwell were prolific in this department when they came to the club. What has changed, they have chances but seem reticent to commit to them.
A Merson type midfielder would transform the team and ally this to a 20 goals a season forward and we could become a real threat. Hopefully now that MON has sorted out the defence, has the squad numbers, he will now be able to find the final pieces of the jigsaw.
However much as I would like to see this sorted in January, I do not believe the type of player we need and the quality will be available mid season. However injuries/reds suffered today may actually work to our advantage. Young will come back in, and he does give us something on the right that Cuellar for all his effort cannnot. Is Milner injured, if so does this open the door for Albrighton, if Petrov is out can perhaps Gardner finally show what he has to offer in his proper position at central midfield.
We are close still to the leaders, we are still in the League Cup, perhaps with a good chance to make the semis (although did you notice the Wigan score?) and we are not firing on all cylinders. Yes we are in the middle of a run of away games and collecting points, keep this up and we will be in the top 5/6 mix at the end of the season.
Our defence, whilst strengthened by the incoming "big" three, is also strengthened in that Cuellar is now fully up to speed with the Premier League and this is a good plus.
Yes we could, and I hope, we will do better, but looking back since the turn of the Millenium I have more confidence on us moving forward now than at any other time. Just find those elusive two class players MON, success could be just around the corner. |

Yet again tonight on TVE here in Spain, Rafael van der Vaart has expressed his wish to play in the Prem, and that as far as he is concerend, he is no longer part of the managers plans at Real.
Personally at 13.5 mill he is a bargain, and just the type of player we need to be looking at come Jan. _________________ Its make or break time in 2009. |
